I have been to Thailand 26 times and never visited the province of Phang Nga, to be precise in Khao Lak, and it was neither under my radar. But Thailand is a big country with absolutely never-ending interesting provinces, and lucky me I was invited to a press trip by Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) positioning Khao Lak as a key destination within the Thailand Innovative Meetings Exchange (TIME 2026) familiarisation programme. So, this is how I got to visit Khao Lak.
International travellers can fly into Phuket and continue by road to Khao Lak in approximately 1 to 1.5 hours, giving planners the flexibility to create twin-destination itineraries that combine Phuket’s vibrant energy with Khao Lak’s more relaxed coastal setting.
The destination’s appeal lies in the combination of Andaman Sea landscapes, rainforest, wellness-focused hospitality, authentic local experiences and well-developed resort infrastructure. Together, these elements respond to the growing demand from incentive groups for programmes that are memorable, meaningful and flexible enough to be tailored to individual preferences. A wide range of incentive-friendly experiences, from bamboo rafting along rainforest waterways and ethical elephant-care encounters to surfing, soft adventure and sustainability-focused activities centred on resort gardens and coastal ecosystems.
